Located on Xpu-Ha's secluded beach, this restaurant is part of a small boutique resort offering 4 rooms. The dining experience is elegant and the food is delightful. How can you go wrong in such a lovely setting? With colorful streamers attached to palapas on the beach, the setting is as pleasing to the eyes as the food is to your palate.
When you go to Al Cielo plan to take your time, you will want to drink in the entire atmosphere and relax – don't come expecting to rush. We ordered the paella with seafood and meat, the meal took 30 minutes to prepare and was well worth the wait – meals like this cannot be rushed. We started our meal with a garden salad, fresh bread and a drink. The paella came in a large wok and they served all four of us. Some of us has as many as three helpings.
The restaurant is open-air with a lovely palapa roof. There is a small bar area and seating on the beach if you want to relax before or after your meal.
Al Cielo is relatively new and a wonderful addition to dining on the Mayan Riviera. Xpu Ha is just north of Akumal and south of Puerto Aventuras. The road to the hotel and restaurant is a small dirt road so you have to be looking for the canvas sign and be careful entering and exiting.
