Up & Down the Coast

As summer starts to wind down, kids return to school, the sargassum continues to affect much of the Caribbean, turtles are hatching, and the tropics seem pleasantly calm. We hope you all have had a great summer and will consider sharing some of your stories, news and reviews with our readers. We welcome contributing writers who want to share What To Do, Where to Stay, What to Eat and How to Save and Protect our precious planet.

A ban on conch begins in Quintana Roo and carries through 2017. Please do not order conch—and if you see it on a menu or for sale, just know that it is illegal. Help preserve this most precious resource of the Caribbean. Also, disturbing or taking live shells is illegal and punishable with fines under Mexican Federal Law. Empty shells should never be removed from the ocean floor; they provide safety, security and shelter for many animals other than the conchs.

Sherry

Sherry was born about November 2013 and arrived at the shelter October 11, 2014. She weighs about 11 kg, is spayed and is current on all vaccinations. Sherry was rescued from the Perarra, the local dog pound. She is an active girl who loves strutting her stuff. She is confident and playful and gets along well with other dogs. She has never met a person she doesn’t like. Sherry would enjoy an active lifestyle, so all you walkers, bikers, joggers take note—she would be perfect for you! Are you ready to add a new best friend to your life? For more information about Sherry, or any of the dogs of Playa Animal Rescue, please email Pat at pat@playaanimalrescue.org.
