Azul Riviera 2014 Review

by Lydia Linton Pontius (Dec. 2014)

Azul Riviera is a wonderful villa that is perfect if you are looking to house about 14 people all ages. It is also available as a Bed &Breakfast so if you can’t round up 13 more people, don't let that stop you from enjoying this amazing property—even better, BUY it!  It is for sale and you could move in and never leave.

Azul Riviera is managed by Miguel and his wife. Their English is not fluent but their love for the property and care for guests is fabulous. Miguel greets you and helps you get settled in. They live on the property so they are there if you need them, but they have this amazing way of being invisible when you don't.

This property has EVERYTHING. Large rooms, small rooms, rooms with lofts, and rooms with 360-degree views on the roof!  Bathrooms also have everything—showers, baths, Jacuzzis, bidet, and all are uniquely decorated and tiled. Your common space is huge both inside and out, and there is plenty of room for large parties as well as corners to find for quiet, private moments. Your outside living space has a large terrace-type balcony, a hacienda -like patio, a huge outdoor kitchen with bar and seating galore, a lovely pool, a winding walkway with play areas, sunning areas and the pièce de résistance, two private entrances into Yal- Ku Lagoon; one at the end with its own private palapa and ladder. The grounds are impeccable and full of lovely, tropical flowering plants and trees.

The spiral staircase winds from the main floor to the second floor master suite, and all the way up to the glassed-in room on top. The layout of the house offers a lot of privacy for everyone. The second floor master suite has its own incredibly large balcony that offers great views. It also has a very large bathroom with a huge bath, walk-in shower and private commode.

The downstairs master suite opens up into a garden setting on the lagoon side of the villa. It has a very large bathroom with a private commode that also has a bidet. The sleeping quarters has a king bed, a day bed, and a loft with twin beds.

The main floor houses two more bedrooms in the back, one cozy room and another large bedroom which also has a loft with twin beds. These rooms do share a bath. The larger room faces another garden in the back of the villa.

There is WiFi and TVs with DVDs for those rainy days. And the kitchen is a chef's paradise with both a large indoor and an outdoor kitchen fully stocked with everything you need except the groceries.

The large indoor living space opens up to the patio with large French doors and has lots of living and dining room space and even a bar!

This property is two doors down from the public entrance to Yal-Ku, but tucked in the back of the lagoon you are not at all bothered by those visiting the lagoon. Sunset over the lagoon in this jungle setting is magical. And, yes, the mosquitoes come out at dusk but once the sun sets, it is delightful outside.

I find even the winding path to the lagoon is so enchanting—I love this property and would love to spend more than a day or two here!
