Up & Down the Coast

Happy New Year 2013! Happy 14th Mayan long calendar cycle! May we embrace the true meaning of both with a renewed appreciation and conservation of the Yucatan Peninsula and everywhere we travel and live.

We were in Akumal for 12/21/12 and were inspired by Juan and his explanation of this new cycle we are entering. (See his video under our video section.) Our commitment to Promote and Protect this area as best we can was cemented by the number of people who were there throughout the week. We witnessed 200-400 per day-visitors to Akumal, cars were parked as far away as the highway and down the road to North Akumal, and there was a constant stream of people. Akumal is just a microcosm and example of what is ahead for this fragile ecosystem. Please check out our Causes section in our newsletter as well as on our website to find ways you can help!

Sac-Be.com's mission is Promoting and Protecting this piece of Paradise, as we educate people about sustainability. To show we support your willingness to help area organizations, we are continuing to offer 10% of all advertising sales to the organization of your choice on the Yucatan Peninsula!

Now more than ever we need to help ensure sustainability! Share with us ways you are helping. Sometimes well-meaning people are limited only because they don't know what to do! If you personally are, or your business is, doing something to help, let us know so we can share the news!

BuyPlaya has come up with its annual list of 12 ways to help. Remember, these great organizations need help throughout the year.

Playa Animal Rescue is planning a great fundraiser for the beginning of March 2013 (date TBA). They are looking for donated items that can be auctioned/raffled at this fundraiser. These donations can be services, jewelry, artwork, gift certificates, etc. If you have anything that you would like to donate for this event, please send an email to Pat at info@playaanimalrescue.org.

Senior dog enclosure

Help the senior dogs of Tierra de Animales!! They need their own dedicated area to live, to be safe and have a tranquil environment....please help with a donation to help buy basic materials like blocks, cement, mortar, gravel and other needed supplies! With over 200 dogs waiting to be adopted now at TdA, it is a reality that many older dogs may never get a chance to have a forever home in a private home. For this reason and for their safety, this area is vital to giving them a nice and peaceful life, where they can live out their "golden" years with a little comfort and space of their own. Donations can be sent via PayPal to ayuda@tierradeanimales.org, or for US citizens who wish to make a tax-deductible donation, use our partner Lost Dog Foundation at the PayPal email: donate@lostdogfoundation.org (please note TdA Senior Area). Thank you for helping older dogs!!

Pets of the Month

Wyn is shy but if you give him a chance (and some treats) he soon warms up. He was rescued from the Wyndham hotel. Contact Coco's Cat Rescue if you want to adopt him.

Goldie was rescued by Tierra de Animales. She is a small-medium sized Golden Retriever mix. Goldie is about a year old, and gets along with all other dogs and likes to play. She has a nice, thick coat and all the best characteristics of a Golden without the big size! A sweet girl who needs a nice family to adopt her! Contact TdA if you can.

Sophie came to PAR in mid-Sept. 2012, with her 8 newborn pups. She is shy towards humans, but we are giving her some TLC so she can learn to trust people and become a great companion to any person. She is very sweet. If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please contact Playa Animal Rescue.
