In September 2008 my husband and I moved from Akumal to Tulum, where I was setting up the very first Organicamente store, in a small palapa on the road to the ruins.
We had been toying with the idea of buying land in Tulum for some time and we really liked the concept of Los Árboles Tulum, an ecological subdivision of 221 residential properties located only 8 miles away from downtown Tulum, on the Tulum-Coba boulevard.
It is set up as an environmentally responsible community and has established building restrictions that include 95% jungle preservation per lot and the mandated use of alternative energy systems. One of the greatest benefits of buying in Los Arboles compared to other developments popping up in the Tulum area is the organization of its community. There is a Home Owner Association, a large palapa for community gatherings, an on-site residence administrator, a saltwater pool, picnic areas with barbeque pits, restrooms and a parking area.
In October 2008, we made up our mind and bought our own 2-hectare lot. We were the very first buyers with Title in hand and eagerly waited for the road construction to our lot to be completed so we could begin building our eco-home! However, our life was about to take on a new turn, as in March 2009 we found out that we were going to be parents. We decided to put construction on hold until the arrival of our little man. During those nine months, my husband's legal firm took off and he ended up spending so much time commuting to Playa del Carmen and Cancun that we decided to move closer to Playa del Carmen.
Our little family of three is now settled in Puerto Aventuras and, although we dearly miss Tulum, we spend less time on the road and more time enjoying the good life! One of the sacrifices we decided to make was the dream of building our own home in the jungle, only minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
With the current economic situation in mind, we have decided to put our lot on the market at a reduced rate of US $65,000 (currently selling for US $71,500). For more information, please do not hesitate to contact us: Lucy Gallagher or Rafael Gonzalez.
