Q & A with CEA

Question: I understand that to protect the turtles, night snorkeling with lights is not allowed.  Can you tell me which months night snorkeling is allowed?
Thanks - Dave Cunningham

Answer: Dear Dave, Thank you for your question and for taking into account the turtles during nesting season. Night snorkeling is OK from November to the end of April in the area of Akumal. During nesting season, April to September, the turtles are mating and then the females are coming to shore to nest, and the babies are going out to sea until November. Artificial light disorients all the turtles, so, again, thanks for thinking of them when making your snorkel plans.
Best, Paul - Director, Centro Ecológico Akumal
