Paddleboard Season 2015

It is that time of year again when butterflies in the thousands start filling the air. This has always symbolized that summer is upon us. It is an amazing sight as they start migrating to the beach—almost like they are telling us the heat is coming so follow their lead. This also marks the beginning of our paddleboarding season. The winds start to die down and the ocean becomes a paddleboarding paradise. Just like the butterflies, it's time to spend the majority of the time near the water. If you are new to the sport, you can try paddleboarding on a lovely tour in one of the local cenotes, Casa Cenote. Anyone can do it ... from grandma and grandpa to little young'uns. The water is so flat it is the ideal place for getting your paddleboarding legs. The scenery is absolutely incredible where you find yourself surrounded by different species of mangroves, bromeliads, ferns and orchids, as well as many bird species, coatimundi and raccoons. This unique mangrove environment acts as a nursery for many juvenile fish species enjoying protection until they grow older and bigger. The mangroves are what actually protect and create our amazing reef system. Without the mangroves to filter the water and its sediment, the Caribbean Sea would not have its clear waters, which create a perfect environment for reefs to thrive. So as you explore the mangrove channels or are looking out over the wetlands, just remember that they are responsible for our amazing barrier reef.

If you want to explore this amazing ocean world, paddleboarding allows you to cruise over the warm turquoise waters enjoying the view from above. If you are new to the sport and would like a guide, you can take a nice downstream tour where you stop and snorkel along the way. You can cruise down the coast stopping in one of Tulum's stylish restaurants to have a delicious appetizer and drink.

If you want to get the most out of your vacation, you can rent a couple of boards and have them available whenever you want to jump out onto the ocean. Watching the sun come up
