Latitude 20, a Puerto Aventuras restaurant and bar
Away from the center of Puerto Aventuras, where all the noise and tourists are, located just before the bridge on Caleta Xel-Ha, is where you will find this popular hang for locals. With its large palapa roof you can’t miss it. And if the cool shade of the palapa doesn’t draw you in, the smell of the open grill will. Latitude 20 offers some of the healthiest food options with everything fresh and grilled, not fried. The menu offers tacos, quesadillas, wraps, ceviche, salads, grilled fish, shrimp, ribs, chicken and beef, as well as vegan-option hamburgers. Happy Hour means two for 1 drinks every day from 3 to 6PM. The staff are some of the nicest and most professional people you will find. Come once to check it out, return and risk becoming a local!
What sets Latitude 20 apart from other bars/restaurants, besides the location, is the facility and the fact it makes a perfect spot to host a variety of events, which the owner does, not just for business but, more importantly, for many charitable causes. Latitude 20 has a nice variety of entertainment, especially during High Season, which includes great bands, karaoke and trivia. In addition, on Satudays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to noon, they host a wonderful Morning Market with local vendors, mimosas and incredible “proper” bloodies include horseradish, which to us locals is a real treat!
Covid shut down a lot of activities, but Latitude was able to find a way to tweek their events to make them safer but still viable. Some of the events they have hosted include the local Rotary Club’s Annual Chili Cook-Off, a Pot-Luck American-style Thanksgiving, a Christmas Cookie and Caroling party just to name a few. When Covid was at its worse they even offered their space, food and staff to help supplement a local soup kitchen across the highway.
So, if you are planning a visit to Puerto Aventuras be sure to wander off the marina to check out what is happening at Latitude 20, and say hi to some real live locals! But be warned this is how many of us transitioned from vacationer to fulltime resident! What is better than a cheer’s type bar? A cheer’s bar in paradise!
